Our team offers individualized therapy both in-person and through telehealth across Ohio, helping clients build a healthier relationship with food, movement, and themselves in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. We work collaboratively with families, physicians, dietitians, and schools when appropriate to create comprehensive care that supports long-term healing and recovery. Whether you are looking for eating disorder counseling in Cincinnati for yourself, your teen, or a loved one, Inclusive Counseling is committed to helping clients move beyond shame and toward lasting recovery.

What do different eating disorders mean?

Eating disorders can present in many different ways, but they are often grouped into two broad patterns: restrictive eating disorders and lack-of-control eating disorders. Both can significantly impact emotional wellbeing, relationships, physical health, and quality of life — and both deserve compassionate, professional support. At Inclusive Counseling, we provide eating disorder therapy in Cincinnati for adolescents, teens, and adults struggling with disordered eating, body image concerns, and unhealthy relationships with food.

Restrictive eating disorders often involve limiting food intake, excessive exercise, rigid food rules, fear of weight gain, or intense control around eating. This may include diagnoses such as anorexia nervosa, atypical anorexia, or ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). Many individuals with restrictive eating disorders appear “high functioning” on the outside while silently struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, shame, obsessive thoughts about food, or difficulty trusting their body’s needs. Over time, restrictive eating can affect concentration, mood stability, hormones, heart health, sleep, and emotional regulation.

Lack-of-control eating disorders involve feeling unable to stop eating or experiencing cycles of binge eating, emotional eating, or purging behaviors. This may include binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, or compulsive overeating. Individuals often describe intense guilt, embarrassment, or shame after eating episodes and may feel trapped in a cycle of restriction followed by overeating. These patterns are not caused by a lack of willpower — they are often connected to emotional distress, trauma, chronic dieting, stress, anxiety, or difficulties coping with overwhelming emotions.

Why Should I Get Treatment For My Disordered Eating?

Seeking eating disorder treatment in Cincinnati can help individuals move beyond survival mode and begin healing physically and emotionally. Early intervention is important because eating disorders tend to become more entrenched over time. Therapy can help clients develop healthier coping skills, reduce obsessive thoughts around food and body image, improve self-esteem, rebuild trust with their body, and strengthen relationships. Recovery is possible, and treatment can help individuals experience more freedom, flexibility, confidence, and peace in daily life.
